Dr. Bob G. Smith has been involved with purebred dogs since the early 1970's when he acquired his first American Cocker Spaniel. He has been active in local, regional, and national specialty clubs having served as Show Chairman of the American Spaniel Club's Flushing Spaniel Show in 2007, President and Show Chairman of the Mobile, Alabama Kennel Club for several years, and as board member and officer of the Cocker Spaniel Specialty Club of Greater New Orleans. Having judged at all-breed and specialty shows throughout the US, Mexico, China, and South America, Dr. Smith is approved to judge all Sporting Breeds, the Sporting Group, Miscellaneous Group, Best In Show, and Junior Showmanship. He was the American Cocker Spaniel Parti Variety judge for the American Spaniel Club's Flushing Spaniel Specialty in January 2012. He was honored, to be the judge of American Cocker Spaniels, all varieties at Westminster Kennel Club 2011. He recently judged all varieties of American Cocker Spaniels at the Southern New Jersey Cocker Spaniel Specialty, October 2013. Dr. Smith judged American Cocker Spaniels, all varieties, Golden Retrievers, and Irish Setters at the Eukanuba Invitational Dog Show in Orlando, Fl. in December of 2012. He judged a Golden Retriever Specialty and an All-Breed dog show for the China Kennel Union, in Hangzhou, China, November 2012, and returned to judge again in October 2013. Dr. Smith was the Best Junior in Show Judge and American Cocker Spaniel (Black Variety) evaluator at the Hungarian Sporting Dog Association Specialty scheduled the weekend of the World Show in Budapest, Hungary, May 2013. A student of all Sporting breeds, Dr. Smith is especially interested in the structure and movement of the American Cocker Spaniel. He has authored several articles on the relationship between structure and movement of the hunting/field and show American Cocker. He recently authored articles dealing with Civility in the dog show community which were received with great success and reprinted in several breed and national dog related magazines. A retired university professor and public school administrator, he is a monthly columnist for The Canine Chronicle.
